✨Georgia Clark Shares the Secret to Writing Success, and Jeffrey Scott Savage Shares the Upside of Accepting Failure✨
Plus, an exciting announcement and the return of our comps segment (kind of)!
Greetings, writing friends!
We are kicking things off today with some very exciting news—we’re happy to share that planning for the 2025 Deep Dive Series is well underway, and the date has been set for the first weekend of February—be sure to mark your calendars! Early bird pricing starts on November 29th, and we’ll have more details about the knock-your-sock-off lineup of agents, editors, and authors later this month. Wish we could tell you more, but for now you’ll just have to take our word for it. 🤐😉
And speaking of things that keep our hosts hopping…Things here at The💩 were more than a little hectic this weekend (for our fearless leader, at least), with Bianca’s All About Fantasy Retreat happening on Saturday, her copyedits for A Most Puzzling Murder due yesterday, and needing to organize the Beta Reader Match Up whose emails go out today. Phew!
Which is all a long way of saying that if you’re wondering why the comp titles segment was missing from yesterday’s Bonus podcast episode…now you know. Oops. But fear not, friends, after a short summer hiatus, the fabulous Emilie Sommer of East City Bookshop really is back, and you can listen to her comp recommendations as a standalone episode on Wednesday (by which point, Bianca hopes to have caught up on her sleep). 🤦🏼♀️😂
Today’s newsletter is an Author Q&A two-fer, starting with Georgia Clark (whose upcoming queer holiday romcom, Most Wonderful is out on the 15th). In addition to her insights on starting a nurturing writing community, Georgia also reveals the secret to being successful in an incredibly tough industry that often feels more filled with failure than not.
Which brings us to our second Q&A, this one with Jeffrey Scott Savage, author of 23 books(!), including his latest graphic novel, Quantum Interstellar Sports League (out today). You’d think someone with a track record like that wouldn’t be on speaking terms with the concept of failure, but when we asked him for his favourite piece of writing advice, his response included some wise (and encouraging) words on the topic that we should all pay attention to.
Curious? Read on…😊
