✨Lilli Sutton on How Being Rejected Led to Her "Yes!"; and Mia Manansala Shares Her Publishing Survival Tips✨
Plus, we reveal juicy details about Bianca's upcoming book, and Robin Morris shares the five things she wishes she’d known before starting her writing journey
Happy Tuesday, writing friends!
We’re going to keep things brief here because today’s issue is absolutely crammed. Like, seriously overflowing. But in the best possible way, of course. 😍
First up today is an excellent essay by debut novelist Lilli Sutton (if you follow us on socials, you might have seen it mentioned in our Saturday Instagram post). Lilli (whose debut novel Running Out of Air, is out today) shares how paying careful attention to, and then strategically and thoughtfully analyzing, whatever scraps of feedback agents share in their rejections, can help you make changes that change everything (it sure did for her!).🏔️📕
We also have a video from Robin Morris, in which she helpfully shares the Five Things I Wish I’d Known Before Starting My Writing Journey, which will no doubt be helpful for writers just starting out and make those who are further along nod in agreement. 📹📺
It’s a two-fer essay week and our second one is from Mia Manansala (author of the Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery series, which started with Arsenic and Adobo). You may think you have everything you need to succeed in writing (pens, paper, notebooks, craft books, a laptop) but do you have a “petty DM buddy”? In Community & Spite: The Two Things that Keep Me Going in Publishing, Mia offers up her take on the essential tools all writers need in their kits. (Editor’s note: I laughed out loud at one point while reading it. If, like me, you enjoy a dash of irreverence along with your “informative” and “instructional” you don’t want to skip this one!)
Are you by any chance curious to know more about Bianca’s next book, A Most Puzzling Murder? (Editor’s note: That was a rhetorical question. Of COURSE you are). We’ve got a sneak peek for you today!
Keep reading to see more cover pieces, and the book’s jacket copy.
Final thought: gift-giving season is nearly upon us and there’s no better gift than books for you and your loved ones (not to mention for the hostess with mostest, who’s been giving you so much amazing TSNOTYAW content for years), than a pre-order of this much-anticipated book? 😉📕🎁
And don’t forget those super insightful Books with Hooks written critiques as done by Carly and CeCe for last week’s podcast episode!
