Ted Fox and Tasha Coryell on how to keep going even when writing is hard, finishing a novel 150 words at a time...and more!
Plus, there's a new course offering on the horizon for fans of the fantastical!
It’s Tuesday again, and you know what that means…
…your friends here at The Shit No One Tells You About Writing are back once again with another excellent edition of our exclusively-for-you paid newsletter! It’s a two-fer author Q&A week, and seeing two back-to-back like this really drives home the point that no two journeys to publication are identical (so it’s officially time to stop comparing yourself to others, if you haven’t already managed it). At the same time, there’s always something relatable in their answers, as well as something you can apply to your own journey.
First up, Ted Fox, offers hope to anyone pursuing their writing passion while also employed in one of those pesky day jobs (which we know, alas, is most of us). By writing in short bursts, squeezing in time for 150 words here and 300 there, Ted managed to complete and publish not one but two novels (his sophomore effort, Date Week, is out today). If Ted can do it, so can you!
Next, Tasha Coryell shows us the value of trusting your gut and remaining true to your vision, even when confronted with negative feedback that might make you want to pack it in. With a debut novel (Love Letters to a Serial Killer) out now, Tasha is living proof of something you’ve likely heard before: the single thing that all published writers have in common is that they didn’t give up.
You’ve got this, friends. Go make it happen!
