Hey there! Just a quick note from me @ A French Table
So sorry, but I had a total tech meltdown (the rural France kind - Olympic-level) and lost all my subscribers when my original Substack vanished into the digital void.
Carly, you are a genius! I’ve been struggling with an idea for creating a Substack for ages and you just broke my mind wide open with your succinct example! Thank you!
Hi - I'm Mel (not Michelle) from Surrey and thanks for answering my question about attitudes to self-pub! You hit the nail on the head. I had a few responses to this question when I put it on social media that publishers & agents are very much looking at the sales figures. Self-publishing is a lot of work. I would hate to invest the time and money in a novel that - lets face it - might only sell a few copies and then this fact would count against me for a future querying novel. It's a brutal but hard truth. Also, I'm not interested in selling just a few copies, I'm thinking strategically of my long term writing career. I know there are some authors who have succeeded and have managed both, but these authors seem few and far between.

More stories, ducks, and general disarray coming soon - with fewer Wi-Fi failures. Thanks in advance!

Loved this, the point about Kath also suffering from apartheid blew my mind.
I'm encouraged to hear Jesse Q. Sutanto's thoughts on social media, that it's an added bonus for writers rather than an absolute necessity!
I published my first book in my late 60s. Now I'm 80 and publishing the second.
Never too late!

Glad we could help!
